Why Fireworks Are
Illegal....

This is an x-ray of a 13-year-old-girl's skull. She was
sitting in a car when someone set off a firework nearby. A piece of it
went through the car window into the girl's head and through her brain.
If this isn't enough to make the point, then see the pictures that the
Huntington, Massachusetts Police Department has posted, at
http://www.huntingtonpd.com/fireworks/index.htm; be forewarned, the
pictures are shocking.
Fireworks don't represent "old fashioned,
good old American fun". They're explosive devices that can kill
or horribly mutilate. The following information explains what can and
cannot be used in the Village of Jackson.
Summary of Fireworks Laws
Jackson Police Department
Statute 167.10—Adopted as
Ordinance 7.01(c)
Forfeiture $114
(1st offense)
General Rule:
Devices that explode, fly, propel themselves on the ground or emit
objects are considered fireworks and require a permit to possess or use.
Enjoy These Safely in
Jackson
These are novelty
items, not fireworks, and do not need a permit. However, they may not be used at an
authorized fireworks display that’s open to the public (because of the
danger to crowds).
Illegal to Possess or Use in Jackson
Firecrackers
Rockets
Roman Candles
Anything else that flies, explodes, moves on the ground, or
ejects objects.
Permits
Jackson does not issue permits
to possess or use fireworks. Permits issued by stores or other
municipalities are not valid here. Consequently, all of the items in
red are illegal to possess or use in Jackson.
Some places have regulations that are more strict than state law.
For example, the City of West Bend has banned all of the novelty items
on our list except sparklers. Check with the local agency if you plan to
use such items in another city, village, or town.
Parents
who consent to fireworks use by their minor children are liable for any
damage they cause.
