HISTORY
The Jackson Police Department was established in 1912, the same year as the village’s incorporation. Police services were provided by a part-time Village Marshal, then a Chief of Police. Additional officers were added in approximately the late 1950's or early 1960's. The first full-time chief, Francis Standish, was hired in 1989. Jed Dolnick served as Acting Chief after Standish’s departure, under contract between the village and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, where Dolnick was a Lieutenant. Donald Rosenbauer was then hired as the first and only Director of Public Safety, which combined the functions of police and fire chief. The position was again split with his retirement in 2000. Sgt. Peter Habel served as Interim Chief until March 2001, when Jed Dolnick returned as Police Chief.
