The police department has participated in the anti-drug program, DARE, for many years. The fifth grade students of Jackson Elementary School receive DARE instruction from Officer Michael Foeger and a member of the Washington County Sheriff's Department. The officers visit a class once a week for 10 weeks, culminating in a DARE graduation ceremony. It's hoped that DARE will provide the students with the tools to resist the misuse of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol in their future years.
